Weekly Photo Challenge: Everyday Life

On this farm, there is nothing ordinary in the everyday.

Especially not our little pet calf: Beetle, who was raised in the house, and despite weighing well over 100kg, keeps trying to get back inside.

    • Hi Teju, thank you for the comment. You should have seen Beetle when she was newborn – she weighed just 10kg. It was quite scary having this fragile little life in our hands, but she was always a fighter, and now she is so big and healthy. It is a miracle and we thank God for her!

  1. how nice! Sharing our lives with animals is so wonderful, there’s something so magical about it! I’m glad you know how blessed you are! I’ve always longed to adopt a calf too. I can’t seem to get enough of Beetle, more pics of her would be greatly appreciated! πŸ™‚

    • Hi again Teju, yes, we are indeed very blessed to have these amazing creatures in our lives! Beetle features more prominently on the Hydeaway Farm blog: hydeawayfarm.wordpress.com and there are photos of her as a newborn at the original Hydeaway Farm news page: hydeawayfarm.co.za/news.htm
I am planning to do a Beetle post on Clothed With Thunder – she seems to be quite a hit! Since putting up her picture, traffic has skyrocketed πŸ˜‰ There will be more pictures of her then, from tiny newborn calf to the thriving young lady she is now.
If you find yourself in a position where you can adopt a calf as a pet, please consider rescuing a bullcalf from a dairy farm. Many farmers – especially Jersey breeders – are so desperate to get rid of their bullcalves that they will give them away when they are young. We are amongst them, although we try to make sure that they go to a decent place where they will be fed and looked after.
      Thanks for the comment!

      • WOW! this is just amazing! the pics are such a visual treat & i devoured them all! enjoyed every bit of that link! and yes, you must indeed dedicate a post for her, she’s well worth it πŸ™‚
